The short version
- FamPin shares your location, battery level and place alerts with the people in the circles you join, after you allow location access.
- We don’t sell your information. We don’t show ads. We don’t use advertising trackers or third-party analytics.
- You can pause sharing with Ghost Mode, leave any circle, and delete your account from inside the app.
Who we are
FamPin (“FamPin”, “we”, “us”) is a location-sharing app for iPhone and iPad, operated by [legal name of the business or developer], [postal address]. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
Questions about privacy go to privacy@fampin.com.
What we collect
| Information | What it includes | Why we need it |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Your name and email address. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple gives us your name and either your email or a private relay address. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see them. | To create your account and let your circle recognise you. |
| Profile photo | A photo you choose to add. It’s stored with your profile. | To show your circle who’s who on the map. |
| Location | Precise location, with accuracy, and where available altitude, speed and heading. | To show you on your circle’s live map and to power place alerts, nearby alerts and directions. |
| Location history | Past locations with the time, and your battery level at that time. | So you and your circle can look back at a day. |
| Battery | Battery level and whether your phone is charging. | To show your circle your battery and send low-battery alerts. |
| Online status | Whether you’re online and when you were last seen. | To show your circle that your location is current. |
| Circles and places | Circle names and members, invite codes, the places you save (name, map position and size) and arrive and leave events. | To run your circles and Smart Place alerts. |
| Live tracking and Drive Mode | Your destination, route, estimated arrival time and a short trail of recent points while the feature is on. | To share a trip with your circle while it happens. |
| Notifications | Activity items such as arrivals, low battery and nearby alerts, and a push token for your device. | To deliver alerts to you and your circle. |
| Device Finder | Whether a device is marked as lost, who marked it and when. | To ring a lost phone and notify your circle. |
| Purchases | Your purchase and subscription status, through Apple and RevenueCat. We never receive your card details. | To unlock Premium and restore purchases. |
| Messages to us | What you send when you email us or use our contact form. | To answer you. |
What we don’t collect: your contacts, your photo library (other than a photo you pick), your microphone, or your advertising identifier. FamPin doesn’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
How location works
iOS asks your permission before FamPin can use your location. You choose:
- While Using the App: FamPin updates your location only while the app is open.
- Always: FamPin can also update your location in the background, so your circle sees where you are and place alerts work when the app is closed. iOS shows a location indicator while this happens.
FamPin uses precise location while the app is open and lower-power, less precise updates in the background. To recognise your saved places it uses Apple’s region monitoring, which works on your device. Live tracking and Drive Mode send updates more often while they are switched on.
You can change the permission at any time in the iOS Settings app, under Privacy & Security, then Location Services, then FamPin.
How we use your information
- To provide FamPin’s features: the live map, circles, places and alerts, location history, Device Finder and directions.
- To send the push notifications you and your circle have set up.
- To manage purchases and subscriptions.
- To answer support requests.
- To keep FamPin secure and prevent misuse.
- To meet legal obligations.
We don’t sell your personal information, use it for advertising, or build advertising profiles. We don’t “share” it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as California law defines that term.
If you’re in the UK, the EU or a similar jurisdiction, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (running the features you sign up for); your consent (location and notifications, which you grant through iOS and can withdraw at any time); our legitimate interests (security and preventing abuse); and legal obligations.
Who can see your information
People in your circles
When you join a circle, its members can see your name, profile photo, current location, battery level, online status, arrivals at and departures from the circle’s places, and your location history. Only join circles with people you trust, and only invite people who agree to share.
Service providers
We use a few companies to run FamPin. They process information on our behalf and only to provide their service:
- Google Firebase (Google LLC): sign-in, database storage, push notification delivery and server functions.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, push notifications, App Store payments, and Apple Maps for maps and directions.
- RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.): checks your purchases so Premium unlocks. It uses an anonymous app user ID.
Legal reasons
We may disclose information if the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order, or to protect someone’s safety. If FamPin is sold or merged, your information may transfer to the new owner under this policy, and we’ll tell you first.
Your controls
- Ghost Mode (Settings, then Privacy & Sharing) pauses location sharing. FamPin stops sending new locations until you turn it off. People in your circle may still see the last location you shared.
- Location and battery sharing can each be switched off in Settings.
- Leave All Groups removes you from every circle and stops sharing.
- Location permission and notifications can be changed at any time in iOS Settings.
- Delete your account from inside the app. See Deleting your account.
How long we keep information
- Location history: FamPin keeps a rolling 90 days. Older entries are removed as new ones are saved. If you stop using FamPin, ask us and we’ll delete what remains.
- Live tracking trail points: deleted when live tracking or Drive Mode ends.
- Profile, current location, battery and online status: kept while your account exists. Each update replaces the last one.
- Activity notifications: kept until you delete them or ask us to.
- Queued push messages and lost-device requests: deleted as soon as they’re delivered.
- Purchase records: kept by Apple and RevenueCat as needed for accounting and tax.
- Support emails: kept only as long as we need them to help you.
Deleting your account
In FamPin, go to Settings, then Privacy & Sharing, then Data & Privacy, and tap Delete My Account. This immediately deletes your sign-in account and your profile, including your photo, current location, battery, online status and live tracking data, and removes you from every circle.
To erase everything else, including your location history, activity notifications, and circles and places you created, email privacy@fampin.com from the address on your account, or use our contact form. We’ll confirm when it’s done, within 30 days.
Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription. Cancel it in your Apple ID settings. See Delete your account for step-by-step help.
Security
Information travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections, and is encrypted at rest by Google Cloud. Database access rules limit who can read and change data. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep your device locked.
Children and teens
FamPin is built for families. You must be at least 13 to create your own account, and if you’re under 18 you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact privacy@fampin.com and we’ll delete it.
Where your information is stored
FamPin’s database runs on Google Cloud in the United States. If you live elsewhere, your information is transferred to the US. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy
- correct information that’s wrong
- delete your information
- object to or restrict how we use it
- withdraw consent, for example by turning off location access
- complain to your local data protection authority
California residents have the right to know, delete and correct their information, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We don’t sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms.
To use any of these rights, email privacy@fampin.com. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we’ll reply within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
